Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

Title Sponsor Bob Rawlings from Titleist/Footjoy, Alan Kristmanson, host Professional, Doug Morgan, 2010 Champion, Brian Butters, BCPGA.

Doug Morgan of the Redwoods fired a solid final round of even par 71 to take home his second consecutive BCPGA Championship at the Arnold Palmer designed Whistler Golf Club. His final score of 8 under par was 4 better than runner up Bryn Parry of Seymour Creek. Morgan played solid golf in very windy conditons during the third round. Only 7 players were bale to break par over the Championship as the Whistler Golf Club played to true Championship form.

“We were very proud to host this prestigious event” said Alan Kristmanson, Director of Golf at the Whistler Golf Club. “The players raved about the course conditions and the new Practice Facility. The greens were running fast and true and with the wind being up for all three days the best players were identified, which is what a Championship of this stature should do”

106 Professionals challenged the 6722 layout over the 54 hole event. Many players hadn’t visited the club since the renovations in 2000. Many felt the course was highly under rated and appreciated the shot values and the skill required around the greens in order to score well. “This is one of the most underrated courses in the province, ” said  third place finisher Phil Jonas. “Ignore those rankings, this place is great. I love this course.”

Morgan takes second round lead at the BCPGA

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

Back to back 67′s has Doug Morgan of the Redwoods in first place with a comfortable three shot lead heading into the final round of the BCPGA Championship at the Arnold Palmer designed Whistler Golf Club. Morgan has a three shot lead over Brynn Parry of Seymour Creek who bounced back with the low round of the tournament with a 5 under par score of 66.

Morgan’s second round included 6 birdies and two bogies, while his first round included an amazing eagle two at the 460 yard par 4 16th.  Parry’s round also included 6 birdies along with a lone bogie at the difficult par 3 8th.

“Conditions were difficult today” said Alan Kristmanson, Director of Golf at the Whistler Golf Club. ” Overnight rain softened the course a little but the greens were still extremely quick and you had to ensure you kept the ball below the hole. The leaders played some great golf today in difficult wind and rain. The pins will be a little tougher tomorrow so it should be an exciting finish.”

Palmer’s hosts biggest Twoonie Apres ever??

Monday, June 7th, 2010

What a turn out! Sunny skies greeted Whistler’s Mountain bikers on Thursday June 3rd at the weekly Cross Country Mountain Bike race dubbed “Twoonie Race” $2 gets you a great marshaled race course, dinner and couple of beers and prizes. The Whistler Golf Club was proud to share sponsorship with Summit Sports this year and Palmer’s Gallery Bar and Grill once again was the stage for a great race Apres.

The course took us up the bike park- yes up the bike park- to start. Although we rode up ‘Easy Does it” there was nothing easy about it. After a 25 minute straight up grunt we loosend up the shocks, dropped the seats and headed down “the Angry Pirate.” Greasy and mean just like a pirate; this trail was a blast. From there we climbed “up” B line.  10 or so switch backs and a near jammer later we got the wave to head “down”- yeah! “Crank it Up” was fast and smooth and big air was had by all- okay not all, but it was awesome.

349 riders then headed to Palmer’s Gallery Bar and Grill at the Whistler Golf Club. Brother Twang had the tunes going, Head Chef Kevin Gosselin pounded out the Lasagna and salad and the servers poured draft as fast as they could to very thirsty riders. Ryan and Ian from Summit had great prizes to giveaway and the Whistler Golf Club chipped in with some golf to cap of a great evening of riding and Apres. Brother Twang kept the party going until another successful Twoonie Night was in the books.

Thanks to Summit Sports for a great race and to Adrian and the Palmer’s Gallery team for a great Apres.
