The Whistler Golf Club is pleased to announce that the club will be replacing its putting surfaces with a new strain of Bent grass for the 2012 season. General Manager Alan Kristmanson on this capital upgrade:
” We are thrilled to be making this improvement to our putting surfaces for the 2012 season. 007 Bent grass will be installed to replace the current poa annua grass that has overtaken our greens over the last 28 years. Bent grass has a much stronger resistance to snow and ice damage and should allow us to get into summer condition much quicker in the Spring. We have had some challenges the last three years coming our of winter so we feel this will help dramatically. Bent grass also provides a much smoother putting surface. Mr. Palmer’s green complexes will not be altered at all as our guests love the rolling slope here at the Whistler Golf Club”
The project stared in March with snow removal from the greens. ” Mother nature was tough on us as we had to do 6 laps of the greens but we got them clear in time for old sod removal. The current green surfaces were stripped in early April and the new sod laid April 10-12. We hope to open sometime around the third week of May.” See below for videos on the first two phases of the project. To view photos of this project click here.
